The text of the entire Moorcroft Press Release announcing the event:
With a long list of prestigious English ceramic companies struggling and many closing their doors, it is encouraging and inspiring to hear the positive accomplishments of one small art pottery in England that is successfully bucking this trend. As collector demand continues to increase worldwide, Moorcroft Pottery is producing more art pottery today than ever before. And many of these new designs can be seen gracing homes right here in Fresno.
Today, despite the challenges of an economic down turn , Moorcroft continues to thrive and grow, bursting with new design styles and creativity, selling more of its art pottery across the world than in the company’s previous heyday in the 1920’s. Add to that the fact that this 100 year old company continues to design and make all its pottery in its original Burslem England factory and one just has to ask, how do they do it?
To fully understand Moorcroft’s continued success story one must appreciate the dedication and enthusiasm of their “stockists” as Moorcroft calls the retailers that carry their unique art pottery. One such Moorcroft “stockist” is located here in Fresno, Tamsen Munger Fine Gifts. Introducing Moorcroft Pottery to her customers in 1999, Tamsen Munger says “she always looks for the most unique gifts we can find from all over the world.” It is because of Tamsen’s hands on management skills and her personal touch, that she soon established a strong and loyal group of Moorcroft collectors. That coupled with the fact that Tamsen is a Moorcroft collector herself, only helped to promote and nurture her customers Moorcroft enthusiasm. As Tamsen will tell you, “I can happily say that not only am I a dealer of Moorcroft pottery, I am also a dedicated collector! Who can resist, it is all so beautiful.”
Moorcroft knowledge and expertise would soon be added to her enthusiasm after she and her associate Bob Walsh visited the factory in England and were given the grand tour. Beginning in 2001, Moorcroft Chairman Hugh Edwards visited with collectors and just a few years later, in 2003, Moorcroft designer Emma Bossons, travelled from England for a special engagement at Tamsen Munger Fine Gifts. All of this was to the delight of Tamsen’s quickly growing group of Moorcroft collectors!
Having just recently announced her retirement at the end of this year, Moorcroft Pottery wanted to publically thank Tamsen for her enthusiast dedication with a special day in her honor. On Saturday, November 7th, from 10:30am-3:00pm, Moorcroft representative, Jan Say will be in the store with a very unusual collection of Moorcroft designs. Come join in the fun as these pieces are unboxed. Each will only be available in Fresno on this special day with Tamsen. Tamsen has held many a successful Moorcroft event and this one will be no exception! You can expect a truly unique Moorcroft offering to honour Tamsen’s unique contribution over the past ten years as a top US Moorcroft stockist!
Fresno has been privileged to be home to this unique gallery and Moorcroft has been privileged to be part of Tamsen Munger Fine Gifts.
