Visit to the Moorcroft Factories in England
The week of July 20th my associate Robert Wash and I visited the factories for Moorcroft Pottery and Enamels in Stoke on Trent and Worcester, England. I will be adding photos of the intricate process every piece of Moorcroft goes through to become the beautiful artwork that we all appreciate. All the pottery is hand made from start to finish. The clay goes through a sieve in liquid form to guarantee that it is as refined as possible. It is then poured into a mold. After it "sets up" the piece is removed and is turned on a lathe to a fine quality piece. After the piece has been turned on the lathe it then has a hand painted pattern traced onto the pot. The piece then is "tube lined" which is a process that is very much like frosting a cake, but using a thin clay rather than frosting. After "tube lining" the piece is fired. It is then ready to be painted. The artist's brush never really touches the pot. The paint is glently laid on and flows onto the pot. It is then fired for a second time. The piece is then glazed and fired two more times before it is inspected for the last time and boxed for sale. Each piece is inspected at least five times before it is passed as a "first" to be sold. No seconds are sold in any Retail Gallery. The quality of your Moorcroft is always the finest. |
